Title: Atlas of Namibia: A portrait of the land and its people
Author(s): Carole Roberts
, John Mendelsohn, Alice Jarvis and Tony Robertson
Organization: Atlas of Namibia Team, Directorate Environment Affairs, Windhoek, Namibia
Copyright: Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Namibia
Description: This atlas was published at the end of last year and unfortunately this brief description and the images to the left do not to justice to this amazing piece of work. The book contains over 200 maps which were compiled using MAPublisher in conjunction with Adobe Illustrator 8.01 from ArcView .shp files. Apart from thematic maps, the atlas also has topographical, geological, climatic, transportation, etc. maps. It comprises six chapters: Introduction (including 7 topographical maps of the country), physical geography, climate, plants and animals, the land, and the people. The last thematic atlas of Namibia was published 20 years ago. This new atlas is a compilation of the latest GIS, images and statistical information for the country. It was compiled and produced over three years and only possible through the generous support of a great number of people and organisations. The Atlas Project was based in the Ministry of Environment (Directorate of Environmental Affairs) and funded by the Government of Finland, through a bilateral agreement. The book is one of two products of the project. The second product is the data that were assembled and processed to produce the maps. This data is available on the web at www.dea.met.gov.na
This map won the thematic category, as well.
