Using the Google Maps API is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) way to show geo–locations on today’s websites. In this tutorial I’ll demonstrate how I give my google maps a more realistic look and I’ll give you some tips on how to make your own maps really shine!

Note: go to the blog by clicking the link above. Boccalari provides excellent instructions and clear graphics to help you tweak your maps. Best of all, you can download the code. For a preview of the finished map, Click Here

AeroMetric to Map Guam International Airport

www.aerometric.com

AeroMetric has been awarded the contract to provide the Antonio Borja Won Pat Guam International Airport with an electronic Airport Layout Plan (eALP) for a FAA airspace analysis of the entire airport property.

The airport, also known as Guam International, is located in Tamuning and Barrigada, in the U.S. territory of Guam. It is named after Guam’s first delegate to the United States House of Representatives.

Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands and lies 3800 miles west of Hawaii. With over 220 airport mapping projects successfully completed using FAA AC 150/5300–18B, AeroMetric brings extensive airport mapping experience to this assignment, which along with our prior international experience ensures that the team will solve the logistical challenges involved in acquiring imagery at this remote location.

AeroMetric’s deliverables will be used by AECOM, the prime consultant on the project, to develop a FAA GIS database per the FAA’s Airport Surveying GIS Program.

“AECOM is excited to continue our successful relationship with AeroMetric on these A-GIS/eALP projects. Our collective experience on similar projects throughout the U.S. will enable us to coordinate efficiently as we focus on creatively solving problems stemming from working in a remote location,” said, Andrew Scanlon, senior project manager with AECOM.

“AeroMetric’s experience in developing airport GIS data according to the exacting standards defined by the FAA and NGS has allowed us to consistently support our airport consultant clients, and ensure their success. Working with AECOM has generated the first FAA approved eALP data set and we look forward to supporting them again on this exciting project!” said Bob vander Meer, vice president with AeroMetric

AeroMetric Adds Aircraft to Fleet

AeroMetric has taken delivery of a Piper Navajo Chieftain as part of its continued technology renewal and expansion strategy to support projects nationwide. This airplane joins AeroMetric’s existing fleet of eight fixed–wing aircraft that can be fitted with any of their three digital mapping cameras, two airborne LiDAR sensors and six film cameras.

This Chieftain has twin 350 horsepower engines, giving it the capability of flying up to 26,000 feet, cruising at over 200 knots, and a range of over 1,000 miles. This adaptable aircraft will be able to deploy any of AeroMetric’s wide array of sensors, while its extended fuel storage capacity will provide increased range and versatility.

“We are very excited with the new addition to our fleet. Having this aircraft on–line for the busy fall flying season gives AeroMetric additional capacity to provide clients with rapid mobilization and data acquisition,” said Bob Richards, AeroMetric’s senior vice president and chief of program management.

In a stagnant economic environment, median growth rate on the companies listed on the 2011 Inc. 5000 list remains an impressive 94–percent. These companies report the creation of 350,000 jobs in the past three years, and aggregate revenue among the honorees reached $366 billion, up 14–percent from last year. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/5000.

Pat Olson, president and chief executive officer of AeroMetric, said, “We are immensely proud to be recognized by Inc. magazine, as it reflects the efforts of our entire staff during a challenging economic period. AeroMetric started as a small professional services organization with a vision of excellence; always searching for ways to grow sustainably and better serve our clients. We anticipate to continue to build upon this foundation in the years ahead.”

“Now, more than ever, we depend on Inc. 500/5000 companies to spur innovation, provide jobs, and drive the economy forward. Growth companies, not large corporations, are where the action is,” said Inc. editor, Jane Berentson.
