The 2011 Esri Developer Summit will take place March 7–11 at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, California. You can expand your skill set and increase your value in the workplace by attending this world-class event.

The Esri Developer Summit will kick off with a series of preconference seminars on topics such as Python and Esri’s web and mobile APIs. These seminars will teach developers with all levels of experience how to take advantage of scripts and tools that increase work quality and efficiency. Esri software experts will lead a variety of technical sessions that cater to every skill level and development platform. Esri staff will be stationed at the Tech Support Island to explain the latest geographic information system (GIS) tools, processes, and techniques you can immediately apply to your everyday work. You’ll have the opportunity to meet one-on-one to gain expert knowledge and receive valuable guidance.

The summit also will include 30 user presentations from GIS developers highlighting their successes. These presentations have been voted on by the geospatial community as the most innovative and interesting topics. The opening Plenary Session on Tuesday will feature many Esri developers talking about how to leverage the full potential of code and development platforms. Bill Clark, research vice president at Gartner Research, will give the Keynote Address on Wednesday, March 9. He will discuss the challenges of mobile development and the future direction of mobile apps and smartphone platforms. His body of research includes mobile software development, context-aware computing, and mobile consumer application platforms.

2011 Geospatial Solutions Conference Announces Revamped Program Features

www.gita.org/gsc

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) will hold its annual Geospatial Solutions Conference in Grapevine (Dallas), TX from April 10-13, 2011.

The conference will explore the integration of existing infrastructures using geospatial technology in order to maximize efficiencies and extend the life of these valuable assets. This is the only event that will deal with the impacts of decisions across electric, telecommunications, gas, water, sustainable energy, public sector, transportation and the smart grid, designed to give you a 360 degree view of the issues, the impact and the innovations.

“We’ve spent a lot of time this past year listening to our members and constituents and making the changes that they told us they wanted made. The lineup of presenters is impressive and their content is really top notch - probably the most complete and informative educational event GITA has ever offered. The whole event is focused on enabling participants to network with their counterparts in different industry segments, a hallmark of what makes GITA different. The 2011 conference in Grapevine represents the concerted effort of a great number of geospatial industry professionals to provide a truly unique learning and networking opportunity for anyone that uses geospatial technology to operate, maintain and protect our valuable infrastructure,” said GITA Executive Director, Bob Samborski.

There are several new program features this year, including 70% new speakers, an Open Source Track every day, an Industry Trends and Analysis Group (ITAG) session where everyone can attend, Continue the Conversation sessions to get your questions answered by the day’s featured speakers and much more. 3–GIS announces contract with MCNC for deployment of Express Solution

www.3–gis.com

3–GIS, an Alabama–based GIS software development company, announced that MCNCsigned a contract to deploy 3–GIS’ Express Solution, a Web–based GIS management solution.

3–GIS was chosen by North Carolina non–profit MCNC from among 11 participants in a competitive RFP process. MCNC is currently working on a $144 million expansion of the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) scheduled to be completed by 2013. This initiative has been labeled the Golden LEAF Rural Broadband Initiative.

3–GIS’ Express Solution leverages Esri’s ArcGIS Server to seamlessly flow network data between an office administrator utilizing Network Express and field technicians with the mobile Field Express. These highly efficient tools will enable MCNC to address their existing fiber network while adding thousands of miles of new fiber assets to the database.

Express Solution will provide a full view of the MCNC network, which has the potential to serve directly, or through MCNC partnerships with private–sector service providers, more than 1,500 community anchor institutions, 180,000 businesses, and more than 300,000 underserved families once the NCREN expansion is complete.

3-GIS Assists Franklin County Consortium With ‘Alabama Storm Tracker’

www.3-gis.com

3-GIS, a GIS software development and services company is assisting the Franklin County GIS Consortium, consisting of fourteen agencies across Franklin County, by developing the Alabama Storm Tracker URL to review damage assessment data from the April 27 storms that devastated northern Alabama communities.

3-GIS, the developers of the latest technology in GIS mapping information systems, have been assisting the Franklin County Consortium in damage assessment. 3-GIS created the Alabama Storm Tracker URL, a service showing, not only the storm track, but also a fly-over from immediately after the tornado and post storm photos associated with each structure with the storm path. The aerial photography for the damage assessment data was provided by The Atlantic Group, LLC to the GIS Consortium team and then passed over to 3-GIS and uploaded in to the system. Franklin County GIS Manager, Michael Hughes and colleagues will continue to provide technical information from the affected areas that can be updated as needed to insure a comprehensive picture of the ravaged area. 3-GIS’s Alabama Storm Tracker URL is used by local community agencies to identify where they need to concentrate efforts for cleanup, power, water issues, FEMA for quick response, and others in the community to determine how and where to help.

3-GIS Partners with GTI to Develop Android and iPad Application for the Gas Industry

www.3-gis.com

3-GIS, a GIS software development company and Gas Technology Institute (GTI), a research, development and training organization for the natural gas industry and energy markets, have partnered to develop an Android and iPad application for the gas pipeline and distribution industries.

3-GIS, developer of the Express Solution, the latest ArcGIS Server web-based and mobile mapping tool software, is using leading-edge technology to leverage the benefits of electronic data capture – improved data quality, reduced data management costs, enhanced data availability for analysis, and improved regulatory compliance documentation.

Gas corrosion and engineering departments need a consistent and easy way to collect test point readings and facility locations. This field application provides a simple data collection interface using new consumer technologies that are becoming more prevalent in progressive companies’ computing infrastructure. The application will initially assist in field data collection for Cathodic Protection (CP) test point readings and marker ball locations.
