Using LTI lasers for GIS data collection will certainly increase your productivity because you don’t need to physically occupy the locations you have to record. That’s great, but you still need your laser to work seamlessly within your GIS software. That is where LTI’s LaserGIS for ArcPad comes into play. It’s the first robust software extension that significantly enhances ArcPad’s current laser offset functionality

Legislation to establish a statewide geospatial coordination council, in Pennsylvania, was introduced June 8 by Rep. Russ Fairchild (R-85). The bill, HB 2300, was introduced with 59 cosponsors and referred to the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committee.
Pennsylvania is one of only three states that do not have a geospatial coordination council. Such a council would benefit the citizens of the Commonwealth by providing an advisory panel from the public, private, non-profit and academic communities that provide critical geospatial data, services, products, technologies and applications. Geospatial is the base data for mapping, planning, land inventories, emergency preparedness, transportation, environmental management, economic development, critical infrastructure and many other applications.
“We are thankful for the leadership of Rep. Fairchild and the support of the many organizations that have supported HB 2300. I am also grateful to the 59 bipartisan members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who have cosponsored the bill upon introduction of the legislation,” said Mike Shillenn, (Photo Science, West Chester, PA) PA-MAPPS President.

LizardTech®, a division of Celartem Inc. and a provider of software solutions for managing and distributing geospatial content, announced the integration of its GeoExpress Raster DSDK 7.0.0 for MG3/MG2, a toolkit for decoding and viewing MrSID® and JPEG 2000 images, into Applied Imagery’s Quick Terrain Modeler version 7.1.0.
Quick Terrain Modeler is a 3D point cloud and terrain visualization software package used to create and visualize large DEMs and point clouds from various data formats. The software is focused on both defense and civilian applications.
“Our user community has access to significant libraries of MrSID images. This new decode functionality will allow our users to quickly and easily locate, drape, and sample MrSID imagery onto point clouds and DEM’s.” said Chris Parker, Applied Imagery’s founder. “Integration of the GeoExpress Raster DSDK into Quick Terrain Modeler offers users the best of both worlds, high resolution imagery and high resolution LiDAR in the same interactive scene.”
“This integration is especially exciting for our Department of Defense and intelligence community users who currently work with MrSID imagery and use Applied Imagery’s Quick Terrain Modeler for LiDAR data-set management,” said Jon Skiffington, LizardTech’s director of marketing. “These users can now quickly drape MrSID imagery over their point clouds and DEMs for greater understanding and usability in the field.”
