eMaps is a application for Mac OS X that allows users to interact with Google Maps™ mapping service. It provides maps, satellite and street view imagery, driving directions, traffic info, local search for numerous countries around the world.

Features include reverse geocoding service, the ability to create and export customized maps and save a default location view. Since version 2 eMaps allows you to save your favorite places in a dedicated menu.

eSpatial Appoints SaaS Veteran to Support Global Launch of new SaaS GIS Platform

eSpatial, a leading GIS (Geographic Information System), Location Information Solutions and online mapping company today announced the appointment of Mr. Colm Mulcahy as Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, with key responsibility for its fast growing SaaS GIS business. Mulcahy brings more than 20 years experience in sales and marketing leadership and executive management at firms focused on the delivery of business solutions as “software as a service” (SaaS). In 2005 he established Saaspoint, which focused on the deployment of cloud computing technologies which he grew into Europe’s leading premier consulting partner for Salesforce.com.  Prior to establishing Saaspoint, he held a number Senior Management positions with Mitsubishi Electric, and was responsible for the introduction of a Pan-European CRM programme for Mitsubishi Electric Mobile Phones.

One of Colm’s key responsibilities will be to take the lead on eSpatial’s aggressive expansion in delivering pioneering SaaS GIS solutions. He has also been charged with identifying and addressing new markets for SaaS through a global network of channel partners. Colm will drive sales for eSpatial’s iSMART® SaaS GIS Platform.   iSMART SaaS GIS provides full function GIS over the web: customers get all the functionality they expect from a traditional desktop GIS software solution except with the added benefits of a pure web interface and the convenience of SaaS. All functions, including advanced editing, are provided in a browser. iSMART enables users to create, view, edit, analyze and share geographic information and business data over the web. It also includes APIs for developers to extend or embed GIS capabilities in business applications.

Dangermond to Receive Global Citizen Award

Jack Dangermond, founder and president of Esri, has been named to receive the Global Citizen Award of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association. The award will be presented on the opening day of the GSDI 12 World Conference, to be held in Singapore October 19–22, 2010. Dangermond, as the recipient, will give the lead Keynote Address on October 19, focusing on a global vision for spatially enabling society.

The Global Citizen Award is an occasional award of the GSDI Association. Recipients have provided exemplary thought leadership and substantive worldwide contributions in both promoting informed and responsible use of geographic information and geospatial technologies for the benefit of society and fostering spatial data infrastructure (SDI) developments or geospatial advancements supporting sustainable social, economic, and environmental systems integrated from local to global scales.

A landscape architect by training, Dangermond is one of the founding fathers of geographic information system (GIS) technology and is considered to be one of the most influential people in GIS. For more than 40 years, he has been an outspoken proponent of GIS as one of the most promising decision-making tools for urban, regional, environmental, and global problems. Esri, which he and his wife, Laura, founded in 1969, has the largest GIS software installation base in the world, with over one million users in more than 300,000 organizations representing business, government, nongovernmental organization (NGOs), and academia. Dangermond has been a leader and visionary in the field, promoting GIS technology beyond that of his own company. He has delivered keynote addresses at international conferences, published hundreds of papers, and given thousands of presentations. His passion for GIS and its application to solving problems, particularly for the causes of the environment and the less empowered in society, is well known throughout the industry.

He has been awarded 10 honorary doctorates and received a number of awards, including the Carl Mannerfelt Medal from the International Cartographic Association in 2008; the Public-Private Partnership Award from the National Governors Association in 2009; the Patron’s Medal from the Royal Geographical Society in June 2010; and, most recently, the National Geographic’s Alexander Graham Bell Medal.

Davie County, N.C. Utilizes GTG's MapNimbus to Inform Citizens of Crime Information

Geographic Technologies Group (GTG) welcomes Davie County, N.C. to the fast-growing community of MapNimbus users. MapNimbus an easy-to-use online mapping solution for the public that provides citizens with information on what is happening in their community. Davie County is currently using MapNimbus to show crime and sex offender data.

MapNimbus is an easy-to-use Google Maps-based interface that allows the public to view information in a variety of categories, including crime activity and sex offender data. It offers dynamic reporting tools that allow users to quickly analyze events that have occurred within a particular time.

MapNimbus has intuitive search capabilities allowing users to search by address or general location, such as parks or schools. MapNimbus also includes e-mail notification capabilities. MapNimbus will automatically e-mail users if there is an update within their predefined area, such as near their home or children’s school.
